Mariscos Calafate is the third generation of a 100% family business, specialized in deep-frozen seafood fishing.

Mariscos Calafate

Our company is founded to carry out the last process in the chain, the distribution and commercialization of seafood. Fishing, carried out from our own boats, is done in an artisanal way, and classified by our crew with meticulous care, to obtain a seafood of the highest quality and with the least possible manipulation. We make a difference with respect to our direct competitors by controlling the entire traceability process (added value), since we control and supervise from the construction of the ship until the product reaches the end customer through different processes such as: fishing, handling, sorting, packing and freezing.

Mariscos Calafate
Mariscos Calafate mainly specializes in catching Carabineros, Cigalas, Gamba Blanca and Roja of the highest quality.
Mariscos Calafate

We are currently one of the few Andalusian shipyards that continue to open their doors every day. We are currently working on 3 vessels; 2 trawlers and a tuna vessel and we have a staff of 7 workers.

Both the financial crisis of 2008 and the elimination of aid to scrap vessels and renew the fleet greatly affected the fishing sector, leaving it in an extreme situation today.

With a fishing history that begins in 1945, our company Mariscos Calafate takes its name from the nickname of the founder of the family business, Nicolás Casas González, El Calafate or master-carpenter who is dedicated to shipbuilding. He created in 1945 the first shipyard in our town Adra (Almería), Astillero Nicolás Casas, specialized in the construction of wooden fishing boats.

Together with his son, Nicolás Casas Biedma, the shipyard became one of the most important and benchmarks nationally and internationally in the mid-90s, leaving behind wooden ships to introduce the construction of GRP (Reinforced Polyester) ships with fiberglass). This meant a significant leap in terms of innovation and production. With a staff of 48 workers, up to 10 boats were built per year.

All our boats have a common characteristic, they all present the shield of our people (Adra) on the bow of the ship. We can find ships manufactured by Astillero Nicolás Casas throughout the Spanish geography (Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia, Alicante) and in other parts of the world (Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal).

Mariscos Calafate S.L. was created at the end of December 2017 in Adra (Almería) by María José, Nicolás, Alejandro Casas Molina, Paula García Casas and Juan de Dios García Casas, all of them grandchildren of Nicolás Casas González.

It is important to mention that the product does not undergo any type of manipulation in our establishment, directly from the ship to our freezing chamber and from here to the end customer.

Mariscos Calafate mainly specializes in catching Carabineros, Cigalas, Gamba Blanca and Roja of the highest quality.

Currently, Mariscos Calafate works in various parts of the African geography (Atlantic).
On the one hand, we have two vessels (Abdera Dos and Abdera Tres) fishing in Moroccan waters (FAO ZONE 34). And, since this year 2021, we have two other vessels fishing in West African waters, specifically in Guinea Bissau, Gambia and Senegal (FAO ZONE 91).

Mariscos Calafate with its desire to expand and its dedication, continues to work in a totally artisanal way to offer our clients products of the highest quality.
